Grants

The Houston Saengerbund’s mission is to promote German music, language, and culture through singing, fostering the German language, honoring heritage, and encouraging fellowship. To support this, the Saengerbund’s Charitable Giving Initiative provides grants to like-minded organizations to enhance Houston’s arts and culture. To manage numerous requests and maintain support for various organizations, the Board has implemented a formal grant funding process.

Awards & Scholarship

Vocal Competitions

Now in its 141st year, the Houston Saengerbund is the oldest continuously operating musical organization in the city of Houston. The Saengerbund Awards are given yearly to encourage and support rising professional singers on the verge of a national career.

German Language Scholarship Competition

Founded in 1883, the Houston Saengerbund today presents a full season of choral concerts, German cultural events, and music and language competitions. The Houston Saengerbund is excited to present a new statewide opportunity to foster German language by engaging in community outreach on a wider basis. For the very first time, high school students from across Texas will have the opportunity to compete in a virtual German language scholarship competition to qualify for two full scholarships to participate in the AATG Summer Study Program.

Choir

The Houston Saengerbund has showcased its musical talents throughout our previous seasons by proudly hosting our own Oktoberfest, Weihnachtskonzert, Frühlingskonzert, and a variety of other concerts. The choirs perform a wide variety of music in German, English, and other languages to reflect the culture of Houston. From the Baroque era with Bach and Handel, to the more contemporary styles of Broadway and German Schlager, the HSB repertoire catalog is vast. The Houston Saengerbund continues to be a vital cultural hub, thanks to its dedication to musical excellence and a timeless sense of warmth and friendliness.

Saengerbund Soccer Club

The Saengerbund Soccer Club (SSC) was founded in 1963 from a group of young Germans who were members of the Saengerbund singing society.

As always, all games are at Bear Creek Park at 3535 War Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77084. Come down to Bear Creek Park to cheer our team on to victory.
