Spring has sprung, old and young
come and hear, much good cheer.
Come and hear the Houston Saengerbund choir’s musical welcome of the new year and the season of spring. At the same time, the concert is a reflection on last year's three major events, the Super Bowl, Hurricane Harvey, and the Astros win of the World Series, all in form of music. Let yourself be surprised.
Music directors Mary Kay Buehler and Vicky Hemme have put together a beautiful program. The music will tell you stories about a little green cactus and about roses, spring, the sun and love. A dramatic piece of the musical Les Misérables is a heroic call to freedom, and its rousing melody ignites the passion of the characters in the story. Johannes Brahms's Waldesnacht offers a refuge and comfort, only a forest can give. Flower greetings (Blumengruss) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and many other songs will be on the program.
Following the concert is a reception. Last year's Maibowle (a refreshing wine punch with sweet woodruff typically served in Germany in the spring time) is making a comeback due to it being so popular last year.
